Very detailed description

The best for recovery and daily protein intake

Exercise increases muscle catabolism and, as a result, raises protein requirements. An adequate intake of amino acids is therefore essential to support protein synthesis, both during recovery and on a daily basis, especially when the diet contains a smaller proportion of animal protein.

Pea protein isolates are dietary supplements for sports nutrition that:

  • Contain one of the highest levels of BCAAs found in plant-based foods
  • Are highly digestible
  • Provide a naturally complete amino acid profile, including all essential amino acids

Objectives :

  • To supplement daily protein intake, particularly as part of a vegetarian, vegan, or flexitarian diet
  • Improvements in both strength and endurance (anaerobic and aerobic)
  • Muscle building, optimizing the lean-to-fat mass ratio, gaining weight, or weight management
  • Repair and strengthening of the muscle fibers used during training

Respect for the environment and for people

  • Certified Organic Farming (Ecocert FR)
  • Non-GMO seeds produced in-house by Puris
  • North American farmers under direct contract with Puris, an independent, family-owned company
  • The yellow pea, a legume that fixes nitrogen from the air, naturally enriches the soil and requires little water
  • 100% sail-powered transatlantic transport with Grain de Sail, for the lowest-carbon shipping from the U.S.

How does it differ from other plant-based proteins on the market?

On the market, the vast majority of plant-based proteins are filtered in Asia from raw materials imported from the U.S. or India, with no real or consistent traceability. We have chosen to work directly with Puris, a fully vertically integrated American family-owned company: from non-GMO seeds produced in-house, to organic peas grown in North America by contract farmers, to the filtration process carried out exclusively on its own production lines. It is this model—unique in the world—that allows us to ensure full traceability, from seed to powder.

Our nutritional products are then carefully crafted in Albertville, in the heart of the Alps. No subcontractors are involved in our production chain: all stages of manufacturing are carried out and monitored in-house, which allows us to ensure the quality of our products and to be certified under NF EN 17444 (formerly NF V94-001), a European anti-doping standard for sports.

This certification confirms that our products are free of performance-enhancing contaminants: a very real concern, given that, on average, 15% of dietary supplements on the market contain performance-enhancing substances, such as anabolic steroids (1).

Frequently asked questions

What is whey protein?

Whey protein is derived from whey, a fraction of cow's milk. Our whey is a mechanically filtered isolate (microfiltration/ultrafiltration), cold filtered so as not to denature the proteins, then dried (drying time on the order of ms) by an atomization process, to obtain a very small-diameter powder.

Whey proteins are mainly represented by beta lactoglobulin, alpha lactalbumin, bovine serum albumin, lactoferrin and immunoglobulins.

These proteins are made up of amino acids, and are particularly rich in essential amino acids and BCAAs (Leucine, Isoleucine, Valine), which play a vital role in muscle building. This is why these products have begun to be used in bodybuilding. Whey proteins also contain significant quantities of glutamate (precursor of glutamine) and arginine.

Is the classic range a gainer?

A gainer is a protein product that often contains more carbohydrates than protein. Ideally, the latter should contain a dose of 20/25 g of protein and around 3 times as many carbohydrates. The aim is to provide, in addition to protein, plenty of calories to support the manufacture of muscle tissue and "gain mass". The classic range is therefore not a gainer. It contains only the minimum amount of carbohydrates needed for optimal protein assimilation and slight glycogen depletion.

It's true that few brands offer wheys sweetened with real sugar. Compared with synthetic sweeteners such as sucralose or aspartame, which have up to 650 times the sweetening power, these natural sugars inevitably take up volume and mass in our mix, hence the slightly lower protein concentration per 100 g of finished product.

We've ensured that after reconstitution in the shaker, the carbohydrate concentration is around 5%, enabling optimal rehydration, combined with recovery.

Why aren't your products certified organic?

We use as many organic ingredients as possible (sugar, vanilla powder, cocoa, natural red fruit flavoring, etc.), and are inspected and certified by Ecocert. However, the milk used to make our whey powder is not certified organic, so we cannot market our product as French organic whey. We have opted for local milk from alpine pastures rather than organic milk, which is often collected in large European centers before being redistributed.

Why consume whey?

Whey is primarily adapted to athletes for post-workout muscle recovery, development and adaptation, as well as protection of these muscle fibers during exercise. Recommended for use after training.

In addition, whey is an excellent source of amino acids for compensating for certain nutritional deficiencies linked to insufficient protein intake, or for weight control.

Do you add BCAAs to your whey?

We do not add any protein supplements. Most of the amino acids come from our whey powder, which is naturally highly concentrated in BCAAs (Leucine, Isoleucine, Valine), unlike other vegetable protein sources. The rest of the amino acids come from our unprocessed secondary ingredients (cocoa, for example), although this proportion is negligible.

Why does a layer of foam develop after mixing?

Tip to minimize foaming in the shaker: in hot weather, the mixture may foam a lot in the shaker. This is a natural phenomenon. Heat disrupts the molecular arrangement of proteins and water. To prevent this, store your whey sachet in a cool place, such as the cellar, or even in the refrigerator. This will in no way alter the quality of the powder, and will ensure a foam-free mix!

Proteins naturally foam when reconstituted with liquid, depending on their purity. To avoid this, lecithin (generally soy lecithin) is often used by major nutrition brands. Lecithin is an additive, an emulsifier, and we have chosen not to use it. This is why the product may foam a little after vigorous mixing. This foaming is only temporary and perfectly normal. To obtain a perfect blend, place the liquid in the shaker first, then the powder. Finally, mix as described on the back of the pack.
We do not wish to use processed products derived from soy. Soy crops are very often GMO, and the isolation of lecithin involves undesirable solvents.

Why choose a plant-based protein with no added sugars and no sweeteners?

This version, with no added sugars or sweeteners, is tailored to the needs of athletes with diabetes, or those who prefer their post-workout drink—which aids in muscle recovery—to have no sweet taste.

Gluten-free and naturally lactose-free, this pea isolate is ideal for athletes who want to add their own sugar and carbohydrate sources, such as maple syrup, coconut sugar, honey, and more…

What are sweeteners, and why do most commercial protein products contain them?

Sweeteners are synthetic and/or processed compounds intended to replace sugar in a food product. This substitution is necessary to reduce the product’s calorie content while giving it an extremely sweet taste—even in so-called “zero-sugar” products designed for muscle nutrition and/or muscle gain. There is also a financial consideration, since, at equal sweetness, sweeteners are less expensive than sucrose.

For many manufacturers of protein powders, protein isolates, BCAAs, and supplements, adding a sweetener is necessary to mask the taste of lower-quality proteins. This is especially true for plant-based proteins, whose more pronounced taste is often masked by large amounts of flavorings and sweeteners.

By adding sweeteners (sucralose, aspartame, steviol glycosides, acesulfame K, etc.), the product will have a flavor that, at first glance, makes it much more appealing to consumers—and therefore easier to market. Because they are inexpensive, these additives are often used in combination with others, such as emulsifiers, thickeners, and colorants…

All Protéalpes proteins are guaranteed to be free of additives and sweeteners.

Is there any danger in consuming protein powders containing sweeteners?

At first glance, sweeteners seem to have all the qualities needed to improve a product, without the drawbacks of sugar. They are hundreds of times sweeter than regular sugar and contain very few calories. However, these “empty” molecules have no nutritional value for athletes, and a growing number of studies are casting doubt on the safety of these compounds.

In recent years, researchers have taken a particular interest in sucralose (E955). This organochlorine compound is currently one of the most widely used sweeteners, alongside aspartame. The findings are clear; according to the studies “Sucralose Affects Glycemic and Hormonal Responses to an Oral Glucose Load” and “Sucralose, A Synthetic Organochlorine Sweetener: Overview of Biological Issues,” this sugar substitute can disrupt metabolism in many ways. Thus, repeated consumption may contribute to hormonal imbalances, metabolic disorders, and disruptions in the gut microbiota.

The sweetness of artificial sweeteners may also be harmful to endurance athletes and bodybuilders. For example, sucralose is up to 700 times sweeter than regular sugar when taken in the same amount. By drinking these shakes, you will gradually accustom your brain to this excessively sweet taste. Over time, you will then seek out this flavor in your daily diet or in other dietary supplements. Paradoxically, by choosing a “sugar-free” protein powder that is actually sweetened, consumers are driven to consume increasingly larger amounts of sugar.

Can we cook with your plant-based proteins?

Absolutely! That’s one of the main benefits of our unsweetened, sugar-free pea protein. In fact, synthetic sweeteners like sucralose form toxic compounds when heated—during cooking, for example.

With high-quality pea protein that contains no additives or sweeteners, you can easily and naturally enrich your recipes without risking the consumption of unwanted synthetic compounds.

Naturally lactose-free and low in fat, pea isolate offers a complete amino acid profile, including all the essential amino acids.

Pea protein is ideal for enriching culinary preparations. Whether consumed post-workout or as a snack throughout the day, it’s an essential nutritional ally for your body. Its beneficial effects are evident in muscle recovery, muscle gain, and weight management.
